Laura Liu – Founder & Director, Maple & Jade Music Studio
Laura Liu is an accomplished educator, performer, and leader whose career spans over 30 years across China and Canada. A Certified Advanced Piano Teacher of The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM), she holds a Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, building on her earlier studies in piano and vocal performance, and music education.
Laura’s teaching journey began in China, where she worked as a certified music teacher, public school music teacher’s mentor, senior instructor, adjudicator, examiner, and independent piano teacher for 20 years. Since 2015, she has been a contracted instructor in the Preparatory Studies Division of the University of Manitoba’s Desautels Faculty of Music. In this role, she has guided students of all ages to excel in the RCM Certificate Program, local and provincial festivals, and public performances. Her teaching philosophy blends classical tradition with an encouraging, student-centred approach, fostering technical mastery and expressive artistry.
As the Founder and Director of Maple & Jade Music Studio, Laura has created a welcoming and inspiring environment for families seeking high-quality music education. Her studio emphasizes excellence, creativity, and cultural connection, serving as a hub for recitals, collaborations, and community events.
Laura is also recognized as a leader in the Canadian music teaching community. She currently serves as President of the Manitoba Registered Music Teachers’ Association (MRMTA) and second Vice President of the Canadian Federation of Music Teachers’ Associations (CFMTA), where she chairs the Professional Development Committee. She actively engaged in national and international music conferences in these roles, gaining fresh insights that inspire her teaching. Laura deeply and gratefully values the opportunity to learn from her colleagues' and peers' dedication and expertise, which continuously enriches her professional growth.
Laura’s contributions extend beyond teaching and leadership. She works as an adjudicator, has established scholarships, is an active community supporter, and organizes music events and recitals. Through her dedication and artistry, Laura reflects her guiding belief that music connects people across cultures and generations and that every note is a step toward excellence.
